Teacher Seminars

In Noël Janis-Norton’s professional development seminars, she guides teachers toward creating a positive, firm and consistent culture in the classroom. She explains why things can go wrong and takes teachers step by step through strategies for overcoming typical obstacles.

Noël’s aim is to help all pupils to do their best and be their best. Her Calmer, Easier, Happier Teaching and Learning programs were developed through study, research and extensive observation of exactly what teachers do and how they do it, and what the results are, both short and long term. She teaches tried and tested techniques that teachers can use to rapidly improve the learning, behavior, motivation, confidence and social skills of pupils in the inclusive classroom.

In-Service Topics

I The Most Powerful Tools for Calm, Focused Learning
What we say affects how pupils learn and behave. Noël presents practical and effective alternatives to repeating and reminding that will motivate pupils to become more cooperative, respectful and self-reliant. Teachers will learn four essential strategies to help pupils develop more mature work habits.

II Techniques for Effective Differentiation
Many teachers are concerned about the handful of pupils in each class who present significant and persistent problems. In this workshop, teachers will learn simple strategies for reaching and teaching each pupil based on an understanding of processing style, temperament and skill level.

III Improving Pupils’ Social Skills
Teachers recognize that pupils’ poor social skills create problems that interfere with concentration, motivation, learning and behavior. In this workshop, Noël will explore how teachers can help pupils improve peer relationships. Topics include impulse control, anger management, development of emotional intelligence, prevention of bullying.

IV Maximizing the Learning Potential of Every Pupil
All teachers want pupils to do their best and take pride in their achievements. In this workshop, Noël shows how to improve pupils’ motivation, focus and attention to detail. Noël will introduce Microskills Training, which ensures that all pupils learn the basics in all subjects so that all children can fulfill their academic potential.

V Improving Communication with Parents
Most parents are supportive of their children’s school. However, a vocal minority of angry or anxious parents can undermine a teacher’s effectiveness and cause undue stress to teachers, administrators and pupils. Noël shows how teachers can help parents become part of the solution, rather than part of the problem. She shows how to address parents’ concerns in the most constructive way and how to jointly develop, clarify and monitor strategies for improvement.

Los Angeles Area schools who have conducted teacher training with Noel Janis-Norton:

“What I admired was Noël’s positive approach and her understanding of both the dynamics of the family and the classroom. She supported both the parents and the teachers who saw the benefits of an approach that treated children with respect and encouraged them to be their best selves both at home and in the classroom. We look forward to having Noël Janis-Norton return to Poly for workshops.”
